My mom surprised me with this beautiful box of truffles several weeks ago. There was no special occasion, she thought that the box was pretty and knew that I love Godiva's truffles. Both of these are true, yet it still sits on my desk mostly uneaten. I have a problem with treating myself. This isn't limited to nice foods either. I have stacks of art supplies that I've deemed too nice to "waste". I have piles of books that have been left unread, waiting for the perfect moment. I have this feeling that if I don't wait for the absolute perfect moment that whatever it is will be wasted. That I wont ever be able to have nice things like these again so I'd better hoard them away.
In the end this attitude doesn't serve me at all. Every day and every moment is a gift that should never be wasted. There is no such thing as a "perfect" moment, but every moment can be special if we're living in the present and to the fullest. With this post I want to be publicly accountable to start practicing these truths that I have known for so long, but yet been so reluctant to put into practice. I will wear my favorite dress when the mood strikes, even if it's just to run errands. I will create new works of art with my supplies, because that is what they were made to do. I will treat each moment with the respect it deserves, finding bliss all around me and letting go of fear. I know that this transformation wont happen overnight. I'll need to be conscious of my thoughts until this becomes second nature, but I think this is something worth doing so I'm going to give it my all.
